VISITOR EXPERIENCE
The buildings are among few in Michigan designed to ambitious standards for environmental sustainability.
Energy consumption is off-set by deep-dug geothermal wells for heating and cooling,
solar panels, and automatically modulating lights and ventilation systems.
The Visitor Center draws energy from the adjacent Administration Building,
which was designed to create more energy than it uses.
Water runoff around the Visitor Center and parking lot is naturally cleaned by a series
of bioswales before reentering the Lake St. Clair ecosystem.
Bird-safe glass windows protect feathered friends by preventing bird-strike casualties.
EVENTS
With spectacular views of the vistas overlooking Ford Cove, the special event space occupies the second floor of the Visitor Center. Architects designed this facility as a modern interpretation of the Cotswold-style Albert Kahn-designed Ford home.
The Cove overlooks the first-floor lobby and exhibit space of the Visitor Center; from The Cove, guests enter the Lake Shore Room which provides ample space to host a variety of events from corporate meetings to social soirees. The Lake Shore Room can also be easily divided for smaller gatherings.
